1. Introduction

SplitEase is a free shared expense tracking application operated from Finland. You can reach us at hello@splitease.lngbrdg.com. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and how we handle it.

2. Data We Collect

Account data

Name, email address, and profile picture URL (from Google OAuth). Your preferred currency, chosen during onboarding.

Usage data

Expenses (amounts, descriptions, dates, file attachments), groups, group memberships, settlements, and an activity log generated by the system.

Technical data

IP address, user agent, and session data collected automatically for authentication and security purposes.

3. How We Use Your Data

• Provide the core expense-tracking service
• Send transactional emails (e.g. invitations) via our email provider, Resend
• Maintain security and prevent abuse through session tracking

We do not sell your data, serve ads, or use analytics trackers.

4. Legal Basis (GDPR Art. 6)

• Contract performance — processing your expenses, groups, and settlements to deliver the service you signed up for.
• Legitimate interest — session management, IP logging, and security measures to protect your account.
• Consent — when you authenticate via Google OAuth, you consent to sharing your Google profile data with us.

5. Data Sharing

Your expense and settlement data is visible to other members of the groups you join — this is a core feature of the service.

We share data with the following third-party services only as needed to operate SplitEase:

• Google — authentication via OAuth (your name, email, and profile picture)
• Resend — transactional emails (recipient email and message content)

We do not sell or share your data with anyone else.

6. File Attachments

You may upload receipt images or other files when creating expenses. These are stored on our servers and are accessible to members of the group the expense belongs to.

7. Cookies & Sessions

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party cookie services.

8. Data Retention

Your data is kept for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal data is removed and your contributions to groups are anonymized so that group balances remain accurate for other members.

9. Your Rights (GDPR)

As an EU resident, you have the right to:

• Access & export your data — available from your profile page
• Rectify inaccurate data — edit your profile or expenses directly
• Delete your account — available from your profile page
• Data portability — full JSON export of your data
• Lodge a complaint with the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuojavaltuutettu) at tietosuoja.fi

10. Data Location

All data is stored and processed within the European Union (Finland). We do not transfer your data outside the EU.

11. Age Requirement

SplitEase is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
